Selling on Craigslist
The more that I spend time talking to people that meet me online, the stronger I feel about how desperate people have become to find a simple, duplicateable way to make extra income outside their normal jobs. I wanted to write this post for those of you that are looking for an extra $200-500 weekly part-time or even more full-time, and its COMPLETELY doable!
Selling on Craigslist is nothing new. We all know about Craiglist in that if we have a couch, a used car, or need service work done, Craigslist is a great vehicle to get rid of your unwanted junk fast. Craigslist is one of the top 50 websites in the world, so selling on Craigslist is a snap because millions of visitors look there first to either buy or sell their goods.
But what about making money from Selling on Craigslist? What can you sell consistently to get consistent income?
There are a lot of people selling products on Craigslist, or offering their services full-time on Craigslist ads. From moving services, tree cutters, real estate, cars & trucks…you name it!
Strategy for Selling Cellular Phones on Craigslist
I am in the cellular phone business so I wanted to focus on my strategy for buying and selling phones on Craigslist. The prepaid phone business is exploding, and people go straight to Craigslist to buy their phones to avoid contract carriers such as Verizon or AT&T. Those consumers pay a little more upfront for their phones, but save hundreds annually by going to prepaid carriers such as Solavei which we sell, but also Simple Mobile, H2O Wireless, and many more.
Using my strategy, you can not only profit from selling phones on Craigslist, but you can also become an independent reseller of Solavei and sell a few rate plans for residual income as well. So before we get started, understand that you can easily make $200-300 per week part-time but also make over $1000 a month in residual income after a few months of selling prepaid rate plans. This isn’t hype, I’m teaching people to do it everyday.
You don’t have to do it night and day, but you can buy and sell a couple of phones a week very simply for an average profit of $40-100 per phone. As you build a reputation as the “phone guy or girl” over time, people can come to you for service later on. Selling 2-3 activations a week can make a big difference if you are building a Solavei business for example.
Again, this is more for buying and selling phones online for profit, and maybe get some activations along the way. It’s not for everyone and I understand that, but I talk to people everyday looking for work, immediate money, and this works 100% of the time for us in our store.
For starters, simply download the Craigslist Pro app on your phone and look for deals on used phones that you can turn around and resale on Craigslist or on Amazon. I only look for certain models and mainly T-Mobile phones in my market because they have the proper frequencies to get good speeds on data for the Service that we sell. (You will get better at picking out what sells the more you do this) AT&T unlocked phones work fine in big cities as Seattle, Dallas, Miami, etc because T-Mobile has 3G on the 1900 and 2100 bands which are included on AT&T.
The Best Phones to Buy and Sell on Craigslist
What I look For, and ALL GSM Phones…NO Verizon or Sprint Phones!) are HTC One S or X, HTC Amaze or Sensation, Nokia Lumia 710, HD7, Google Nexus, Nexus S or Nexus 4, AT&T iPhones are hot sellers, you can buy brand new LG Optimus L9 phones from Target or Best Buy new in the box for $199 as a replacement phone (I use this phone and its very nice!), LG Optimus G, Optimus T, Note 1 or 2, Samsung Galaxy S, S2, or S3, and basically do a search for T-Mobile, t mobile, or tmobile to see what is available. You can buy some cheaper phones, but the expensive ones are more in demand to be honest. Galaxy, HTC, iPhones, Notes are the best sellers.
Then you will want to compare the pricing to Amazon and/or Ebay to gauge whether or not its a good deal. (Prices are considerably lower on Craigslist) Look at the used prices and/or new prices as you will see a lot of brand new phones listed on Craigslist. Craigslist is always lower, but you will get a feel for pricing after you watch what is selling for a few days. Download the Craigslist Pro app for $1.99 and you can set up alerts for these types of phones to come in as soon as they are listed. Good deals don’t last long so you have to act fast.
Selling Phones on Amazon and Ebay
With that said, unless you’re selling the phone on Amazon or Craigslist for a profit, DON’T sell your phones inexpensively if you got a good deal on Craigslist. If you got a great deal on a phone, you can list it for a much higher price on Ebay or Amazon to the huge customer bases they have.
Once you establish a good track record there, you will gain trust and more profitability. For example, I bought one phone last week for $60 at the store and sold it for $220 in 3 days on Ebay and spent 15 minutes on the entire transaction. Deals and profit are out there all day every day. It’s like day trading…use patience and sound judgement. You’re going to miss on some deals and get screwed, but overall you will absolutely make money with this.
You can also sell it WITH activation if you’d like, but Do NOT post your standard www.solavei.com/yourid link on Craigslist. This is a violation of Solavei brand guidelines. If you’re in Solavei or thinking of joining, just being around phone sales will help you aquire new customers although they don’t make great affiliates typically.
This training is strictly for people that are interested in selling a few phones here and there to make some extra income. It’s fun as can be to be honest! 🙂 You’ll actually meet some pretty cool people along the way that may end up being your customer. Always carry flyers and business cards with you to hand to the buyer or seller. Try to gather emails to put them into a marketing funnel as well.
I put keywords in the ad that says the phone will work on Simple Mobile, H2O, AT&T etc, and we send them to a link in the ad to a capture page to weed out people we don’t want to waste time on. This will keep the phone calls down on deal hunters trying to lowball your phone for cheap, and pre-qualify your buyers that actually are interested in purchasing a new phone with a rate plan.
Prepaid is Driving Phone Sales on Craigslist
People buy and sell phones on Craigslist all the time because of prepaid carriers coming into the market. They trade, upgrade, etc, and start with Craigslist first. If you are looking for straight profit on equipment for a part-time job, buy low on Craigslist, and then sell higher on Amazon or Ebay. Do your best to get nice boxes to ship them in, but there is some serious profit for those of you looking for immediate part-time income. You can make anywhere from $30-150 profit per transaction if you buy right.
Trading is also a great option. People list WTT because they buy a Note 2 or some phone they don’t like. Stand your ground on the trade if you’re doing this, and if you do you can get some decent profit on the back end by doing this.
Pitfalls and What to Watch Out For:
- Damaged Phones – Don’t buy broken screens unless you can replace them which you probably can’t. Don’t buy beat up phones that have been dropped or scuffed up. That means they have dropped them a bunch and may have internal damage.
- Water Damage – Look under the battery and some phones have XXXX’s on a tab under them. If it is pink or smeared, stay away from it. The tab should be white or the X’s should be prominent.
- Replica Phones – There are some phones that look JUST like Galaxy s3 or similar phones. Take off the battery and inspect it for good quality and logos. Also check the Model number within the “About Phone” section of the device. Then look it up if you aren’t sure to make sure you aren’t buying a fake phone. 99% of the phones are Craigslist are fine, but I see them floating around sometimes. Report them immediately if you run across this scam
- Meet in a Public Place – Try meeting at Panera, Starbucks, etc and use common sense. If they can’t drive or meet in public and you’re not comfortable, don’t do it!
